So I got the urge to read all the stuff Silvermender has up about Chalkurites and got sudden inspiration for a little snippet between a feral chalku and the shifters. Just to summarize it doesn’t end well, so I decided not to continue much farther, but I was still very interested on how echo-energy would effect shifters. What I gathered is that echo energy could probably relate to the energy shifters use, as it is both raw energy, but shifters use more stable, ‘clean’ energy to sustain themselves, and so to me the echo energy sounds sort of like the zombie virus of shifters but not really.
I can imagine the shifters getting into a spat with chalkurites in an au where they both exist and as soon as a chalku snags a shifter in any sort of attack, the wounded area would immediately start being eaten away by ravenous echo energy, the echo essentially transforming the shifter energy into itself and contaminating it, and possibly even using the shifters body as a way to synthesis more echo energy if that is even possible. The end result, if the shifter doesn’t quickly drop off the part of it that’s infected, would be a sort of super-berserker feral chalku that lives all of about ten seconds before dropping into a lifeless heap of gooey echo-infused substance that all the other chalkurites would probably flock to and feast on.
Pretty much concluded that the shifters wouldn’t last a day against an outbreak of chalkus and so that sequence quickly ended. I still kinda want to draw a chalku attacking sen and both inflicting wounds at the same time, since sen would be able to actually do some sort of damage as she’s able to use pure energy to attack.
Chalku’s and echo energy are Silvermender’s brain babies.
